- Advice on caring for nucs and packages – checking and feeding
- Waxed frames versus unwaxed frames
- Conducting a basic inspection

- Other pest management – skunks: hive at least 18 inches off ground for skunks or fencing; bears – electric fence
- Mentoring – identify who needs a mentor and who can/will be a mentor
- Question & Answer period
TASKS FOR THE MONTH OF MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
- Feeding
- as nectar flow gets into full swing (end of May) remove feeders and pollen patties
- Hive Inspections
- Watching the entrance
- Noting what is on the bottom board and in front of the hive
- Note how many frames the bees are actively storing things in (food and brood)
- Verify presence of eggs, open larvae, and capped brood
- Established colonies – swarm control – make splits, forced brood break, Demaree method
- New colonies – check for queen; make sure package installs with no drawn comb have 1:1 sugar syrup
- Add boxes (supers) when bees cover 3/4 of the existing frames in the bottom box (or all the boxes below)
- Pest management – Varrao mites
- Buy and order new hive components – especially have an additional box and frames ready to add
